<title>Import an existing account</title>
<p>
Note: At the moment <app>Empathy</app> can import accounts only from
the instant messaging program
<app>Pidgin</app>. For more information
about Pidgin, see the <link href="http://www.pidgin.im/">Pidgin website</link>.

<steps>

From the <gui>Contact List</gui> window, do one of the following:

Press <key>F4</key>.
</p>

Choose <guiseq><gui>Edit</gui><gui>Accounts</gui></guiseq>.
</p>

Choose <gui>Import Accounts...</gui> and wait a few seconds until the <gui>Import
Accounts</gui> dialog opens with a list of accounts that can be imported.

Choose the accounts to import by clicking on the <gui>Import</gui> check-box.

Press <gui>OK</gui> to return to the <gui>Accounts</gui> dialog. Choose the accounts to enable by clicking the <gui>Enabled</gui> check-box. A dialog opens to add or change <gui>Nickname, Password, Real name</gui> and <gui>Quit message</gui>.

Press <gui>Close</gui> to return to the <gui>Contact List</gui> window.

If you want to change the name that identifies the account in the <gui>Accounts</gui>
dialog, double-click on the name of the account in the box on the left of the dialog
and type the new name.
